View larger. | Realistic rebounding action. View larger. | New Gameplay Features Designed to mimic the true physical nature of the action seen in the NBA, and to allow players at home to use their basketball IQ in-game, new gameplay features in NBA LIVE 10 provide an even greater sense of authentic NBA action. Just a few of these features include: the frantic action of "Hustle Plays," where players can scramble for loose balls leading to transitional offense, including fast-break points and an easy dunks; "Size-ups," an easily launched gameplay mechanic that allows the ball handler to set up defenders off the dribble according to the abilities of the real NBA player represented; and more authentic rebounding functionality that reflects sound basketball fundamentals, including the ability to box out opponents, battle for the ball and tip it to yourself. Together these features allow the action in NBA LIVE 10 to flow like no basketball game before it. Dynamic DNA NBA LIVE 10 features an updated version of Dynamic DNA. A data driven emulation of the actual skills, tendencies and health that each of the NBA players featured in the game bring to the floor throughout the 09-2010 season, Dynamic DNA provides the stats players at home need to evaluate individual team members from the first day they walk on to the court, through the playoffs. Derived from statistical data collected by real pro scouting firms observing each possession in-game players participate in during the real-world season, this data drives all aspects of the game's AI, affecting both actions during individual possessions and overall strategy. Whether players at home are making team decisions based on game-over-game offensive or defensive performance, or specializations within these such as substitutions of players based on their ability to rebound, make assists or get stops and steals, their field goal and/or free throw percentages and 3-point shooting, Dynamic DNA provides the realistic baseline data you need to make the right changes to your roster. NBA Live 2010 July 13, 2010 M. Catlett (Va., USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fun game, fast shipping. Been playing 2k for years, got tired of all of the same flaws showing up for the last 3 yrs in a row....wanted to try something different....was impressed by how far Live has come, extremely fun game, still has some flaws of its own, just not as frustrating as this years 2k.
Enjoyable basketball game June 19, 2010 Texan (Texas) I enjoy most EA sports games. The last Live game I bought was in '05 for the original Xbox. NBA Live 10 has revamped their player skills, emotions, and arena intensity. The player reactions to great plays are designed based on the individual player in real life which is pretty cool. The bench also reacts to the gameplay and the fans are more realistic with more emotion from the gameplay on court; fans jump out of their seats on be plays like three pointers or dunks, hold signs, and try to distract the away team when they shoot free throws. The graphics are good too.
I think three things that make this a three star for me is the lack of "Be A Pro" mode that EA sports provides for other games (FIFA and NHL in particular) where you can create/or take on an individual player's career and see them all the way through, and you need to meet certain objectives to gain skill and approval from coaches and GMs, but Live 10 doesn't have this. Another thing that needs to be improved is commentary. Marv Alberts is a classic announcer and does well, but after playing about 20 games, I think I have heard every line from Steve Kerr who could put me to sleep with his lackluster commentary. I guess comparing any sports commentary to Gary Thorne and Bill Clement on NHL games is almost impossible. I wish the commentary would have a little more excitement rather than a ho-hum feeling.
The third thing that I don't like in comparison to NBA Live '05, is the slam dunk and three point contests. Unless those are available later in the seasons during the All-Star break, I enjoyed the slam dunk contest and three point shootout modes in '05...
Otherwise, I think the game is fun, and worth buying for NBA fans or someone who justs wants to pick up and play a basketball game. I have never played the 2K games so I cannot compare them, but I hear the 2K games are better. I still trust EA sports to produce better games than anyone...
EA has been a disaster since `07. June 13, 2010 Michael Tran (Houston, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I know I'm late for a review for this game, but I just recently purchased this game (first since Live 07), just for the hell of it. Some of my friends say it was better than 2k10 so I had to play to see for myself. First off, I am a former EA NBA Live fanatic for several years until 2007, I am currently a 2k fan. I've played 2k before in the past since 2000 but never enjoyed it as much as Live. But when 2k stepped up their game in 2007, I was just in AWE. Ever since 2007, 2k has beaten Live in EVERY aspect of the game in terms of, graphics, gameplay, individuality between players, and realism. I've played both Live and 2k every single year to see differences and so far it has been won by 2k every year. But this year, I have to admit the battle was closer.
In terms of realism and gameplay, I admit Live has stepped it up to another level, but we have to take into consideration that, Mike Wang a former head gameplay designer of 2k left and was under Live with their NBA Live 10 development. But with that said, I still don't think Live beats 2k, not because im a fan of 2k, but because of the look itself. Live's players do not look as close as 2k does. Live's proportionality is scaled incorrectly and its commentating alike 2k, are still boring as usual. Although I admit there are several exciting changes such as crowd reactions and shot animations, I don't feel that takes the edge away from 2k. In terms of gameplay, it was actually kinda fun to play, it was better than the last several years, by far the best they've ever had. So those out there who are neutral in terms of what company to choose, I would recommend get Live only if you've been dissapointed with them for a long time (as myself).
With that said, I was highly dissapointed in nba 2k10, its gameplay has way too many glitches and movements were not smooth, it almost felt like a bad version of nba2k9. Overall I felt it was a tie between the games, but I would go with 2k, just because I enjoy its graphics better (and I'm a little bias :P). ******But REMINDER to those who do not know yet, Mike Wang has left EA sports and has rejoined with 2k sports. That means NBA Live (Renamed NBA Elite) is going to return to their former selves and bomb once again. On top of that Michael Jordan will be cover boy for nba2k11 meaning he will be a available player to use once again(FINALLY). I don't think NBA Elite 11 without Mike Wang will be able to top NBA 2k11 upcoming season.
I LOVE THIS GAME ! April 6, 2010 Dennis (Ohio) I would first like to say that I played both the demo of NBA Live 10 and NBA 2k10 and while I was a bit more impressed with the graphics of 2k10, I was happier with the ambience and gameplay of NBA Live 10, to which I purchased NBA Live 10. I have to say, I love this game. I started off with the create-a-player, and created myself. Let me tell you, this game is fun! I enjoy the graphics and excitement that it feels like you're at a real NBA Game. The fun part is playing all-star or superstar mode, where it takes some actual skill and plotting to score. I started playing Dynasty Mode, as well as normal Play Game mode. Both are fun! I would have liked to see something to the effect of a Created Player career mode like in 2k10 but that isn't going to keep me from having fun with this game. It's a total blast! Rookie difficulty will remind you of the old school NBA Jam sessions of blowing out opponents and masterful dunks. Higher difficulty is where the fun is, because you actually have to play defense and set up plays! All in All, this is a great game for any basketball fan or casual game player!
