What American Television Just Won't Touch July 17, 2010 Michael Griswold (Rockford, USA) I first found Degrassi : The Next Generation on the local CW Network in Rockford before it was pulled in favor of Edgewood and I instantly became a fan because it had such a greater depth than similar shows that exist in the United States. This is how I found myself purchasing season one of Degrassi : TNG. Even in the first season, this show from our Canadian friends packs a brutal punch. In the opening two episodes, Emma decides to meet a sixteen year old she met online, only to discover that it's really a 30-40 ish man who wants to have sex with a child. In other episodes, Emma gets her period for the first time and receives help from an unlikely Paige. Toby and JT decide to entertain themselves by looking at some porn online, and in the season finale: good girl Ashley takes some ecstasy JT got and ends up breaking up with Jimmy, telling off Paige, and almost sleeping with Sean.
American television just will not touch these issues, so if your looking for something that feels a little bit more realistic than Gossip Girl or any "reality show" currently orbiting the corpse that used to be MTV. I offer my highest recommendation to Degrassi for their raw and less idealized storylines.
Degrassi season 1 May 29, 2010 Deborah Sisson I bought this for my 14yr old grandaughter. She love Degrassi but had not seen season 1. She said it was of the best birthday presents she received! So thankful Amazon had it. Thank You!
Season 1 January 9, 2010 Three Miles Down (Kentucky) This was the first "Teen Drama" I ever saw and I remember watching it when it first came out and I was like 10 or 11 at the time. I had never seen anything like it. It dealt with real life issues very much like Beverly Hills, 90210. Looking back at these episodes now it's a laugh because of how long the show's been out and how much the character's have changed since then at the time I never noticed how short some of the characters were and how young they were.

Degrassi is a show that goes there. Not one of those teen shows that claim to go there. They actually go there! Im 21 and started watching this show when i was in high school and i plan on buying every dvd and show it to my kids one day!
